It’s Monday morning and I’m sitting here with a hot cup of coffee looking outside at the storm. We are so thankful for all the rain we have had and the rain to come, what a blessing.
I am writing to you regarding the 3YD journey. 3YD stands for our ‘3 Year Discovery Bible Reading Plan’ we began 20 weeks ago. We pray you have been discovering wonderful realities about God that have brought you to a place of loving and trusting Him more and more. This past week (week 19) you began reading Leviticus. Try reading each book of the Bible as if it is a chapter in the Story of God.
So the “chapter” of Leviticus comes after creation, the covenant with Abraham, and the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. God has made them, saved them, and now God wants to be WITH them… even in their faith-lessness God will show Himself faith-ful. I found it insightful/powerful how God identifies Himself as “I AM” in Genesis and now “HOLY”. In Isaiah 6 it is worshipful to note that in Heaven God is not identified as “Grace, Grace, Grace” or “Love, Love, Love” or “Forgiving, Forgiving, Forgiving” but “Holy, Holy, Holy”! Everything about God, that makes Him like nothing else in the universe, makes Him HOLY. How amazing that a Holy God wants to be WITH a sinful people. How God plans to do this is contained in the book of Leviticus.
Attached are some articles come from a resource called Multiply Movement. The entire website: multiplymovement.com is a wonderful tool for digging deeper into Scripture. It walks you through how to come alongside other people and help them grow in their faith, knowledge, and relationship with Jesus. God’s desire has always been to bless and have a relationship with His children so that by the HOLY Spirit with them and through them He can love the world. We pray He does that through each one of us.
These articles in particular are part of a section that can help us as we read and try to better understand the Old Testament in light of the New Covenant of Christ described in the New Testament. Hebrews 9:12 says “He (Jesus) entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.” Jesus secures salvation and redemption for those who trust in Him. So how does God want us who are in Christ to apply what we read in the law and sacrificial system? The attached articles will help.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ…what a joy to journey together in the Word with you…but even greater is the joy to Know, Love and Glorify Him! There are so many things that compete for our attention, time, comfort, joy,…and as goooooood as these can be, Christ alone deeply satisfies! Taste and See that the LORD is always gracious and good! Come see the holiness and love of God in Leviticus. Draw near to Him - He has drawn near to you.
